DORAWhen Dora arrived at the Seattle Animal Shelter she had a noticeable limp in her hind leg. Though she was a friendly young cat, she recoiled in pain whenever she was touched or picked up. Shelter staff immediately took Dora to the vet for x-rays, which came back showing a broken femur head. Dora underwent immediate femural head surgery, a significant procedure involving both the leg and hip. The Help the Animals Fund covered all of Dora’s veterinary and recovery costs. After surgery, Dora spent several weeks in a foster home and was later adopted by a loving family. She now spends her days lounging in the sun and racing around her new home, her leg as good as new.

KAIWhen Kai, a young pit bull, arrived at the Seattle Animal Shelter, he was underweight and he could not walk. He was transported to the vet where x-rays showed his hips were broken in four places. Kai spent two months at the vet where he underwent multiple surgeries to repair his hip fractures. Once Kai was strong enough to be transferred to a foster home, he continued to recover quickly, putting on weight and regaining the strength in his legs. Thanks to the Help the Animals Fund Kai received the medical attention he needed. He is now a strapping, happy boy living with his forever family.

SCOUTScout, a young German Shepherd, was living on the streets, suffering from serious injuries when he was brought in to the Seattle Animal Shelter. He was rushed to the vet where his injuries were diagnosed as a broken left leg, a hematoma in his right ear and a high fever. Thanks to the Help the Animals Fund, Scout was able to undergo surgery immediately. To repair his leg, Scout had seven pins placed in his elbow to restructure and support the joint. His ear was cleaned and a drain tube inserted so the hematoma could heal completely. After a week at the vet, Scout was placed in foster care where he continued to recover and learn basic socialization skills. After six weeks in foster care, the vet gave Scout a clean bill of health and Scout was quickly adopted by his forever family.
